Indonesia and Denmark on the occasion of the Zoom Meeting webinar organized by the Directorate General of Intellectual Property in Jakarta in March 2021, have expressed their special interest in raising awareness on intellectual property laws in their respective countries. The specific targets of socialization in raising awareness are Small and Medium Enterprises (UKM), private companies and the academic environment of universities. The event is a bilateral event between the Indonesian government through the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, as well as patents and trademarks from Denmark.

The three target groups of the socialization target, namely Small and Medium Enterprises (UKM), private companies and the academic environment of universities should contribute to an important role in intellectual property awareness. In Indonesia, there are still many people, especially SME unit activities, who do not fully understand and understand the importance of protecting intellectual property rights. By understanding the rights and protection of intellectual property, business transaction activities and processes become more conducive, safer and easier.

Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) are intangible assets but have a very important role in the global market. Therefore, IPR must of course be protected. Then the question is, how can you get IPR protection in Indonesia? Of course it’s quite easy, you only need to register at the Directorate General of Intellectual Property.

At the Zoom Meeting webinar session, the Danish Patent and Trademark Office (DKPTO) shared strategies on the importance of protecting intellectual property for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), private companies and the academic environment of universities. DKPTO speaker, Christina Aagard acknowledged that there were obstacles such as limited resources and funds and she also suggested the importance of careful and good socialization planning so that it can be realized properly. Furthermore, there are special points that need to be considered for effective results for the three specific socialization objectives, for example the DKPTO chooses a way to produce digital content by considering budget and resources. Examples of how to get budgets and resources,

Apart from these points, the most important thing from the results of the socialization is that it can attract attention and show how important it is for Small and Medium Enterprises (UKM), private companies and the academic environment of higher education, to protect their intellectual property rights. The Zoom Meeting webinar this time involves many people, especially partners and media, so that everyone can access and participate.

On this occasion, the Directorate General of Intellectual Property must be able to learn or imitate DKPTO in providing intellectual property socialization at the Zoom Meeting. In addition, the Directorate General of Intellectual Property and the DKPTO have similarities in providing outreach to the public, namely by utilizing social media, websites and mass media to increase awareness of the importance of protecting intellectual property.

With the socialization of this webinar, it is hoped that it can provide motivation and increase the interest of Small and Medium Enterprises (UKM), private companies and the academic environment of higher education in creating intellectual work ideas and encouraging them to register their works or ideas in order to get legal protection. (raa / alb / su)
