The New, New World of Work…

3 years ago, I, John Glover, CEO of Pendragon Management, published a book containing quotes and thoughts from different people around what the New World of Work would be in the future… I would have never imagined how some of the discussions that were talked about in that publication are here now… not due to the world of work maturing but rather COVID 19 forcing us into this work at home situation…

Have a look at the book and documentation and see what’s come to be or not and what might come later…

My view is, on returning to work, the working world would have changed and hopefully for better… Understanding that more time with family and friends is the most important part of living! There is no work-life balance, it’s just life balance going forward and work is part of that balance as unfortunately, we all still need to earn a living…

Will greed disappear for a while…? I really hope so…

Greed does not achieve anything, in fact, it complicates everything…

Those who know me personally will agree that my view has always been that our personal time spent with friends and family is far more important than work… I have always tried to maintain the traditional 9-5 workforce, where my employees do not take their work home with them or get access to work from their home unless it’s an emergency… or it’s COVID-19!! In this way, they can escape their workload at home and spend stress-free and quality time with their friends or family… Moreover, in my view, the travel time to and from work should not impede a person’s personal life and if it’s more than 15-20 minutes they should try looking for options of what can be done.  All my team live around 15-20 minutes from the office so that even if they had to work until a bit later, it would still not encroach their friends or family time while similarly in case they are running late in the morning I know they are just 15-20 mins away…

In this NEW, New World of Work we find ourselves in now, must make us all rethink about our priorities. For businesses, going forward, I would recommend that more joint ventures or working together is the only way to succeed. Instead of only looking for money to succeed, we should now start to consider collaborating with true and genuine people who would want to work as a team while achieving the end goal of providing the client/customer with the products or services they require and we all share a piece of the pie. This will result in seeing the true calibre of real business people and knowing who are in it to provide good for their clients and who are in only to take endless money from them… If you can’t leave your house, what’s the point of the flashy car???

I believe there is a set amount of money a person can earn and after that amount, we just happen to spend it on things we never or hardly use, such as bigger houses, fancy cars or more TVs in every room, than we can physically look at. Let’s instead think of spending money on arts, charities, travel with friends or family! Let’s make a difference when we get out of this madness! If we haven’t learnt anything from this, then we are doomed to relegate to social distancing for the rest of our lives. But as human beings, we know we cannot do that, so let’s behave ourselves now and come out to be stronger than ever from mind and heart.

The planet is also getting a well, earned rest from the lack of movement and hence pollution is down and the world is letting us all know it appreciates this… so let’s not smash it to pieces again when we all get going back…

Let’s change our mindset to work together as human beings to save our planet in ways we can while focusing on something beautiful we can create or enjoy being around the ones we love when we are able to meet them and chat over a meal… but no mobile phones please…!
