The Preiskel & Co Competition and Antitrust team, led by Tim Cowen, has been advising Marketers for an Open Web (MOW) in relation to a complaint submitted to the CMA on 23 November 2020.
The complaint relates to Google’s conduct in relation to its browser, Chrome, and browser engine, Chromium, which MOW argues is abuse of dominance. The complaint was accompanied by a request that the CMA impose interim measures to prevent or delay the implementation of a suite of changes to the browser and browser engine, dubbed the “Privacy Sandbox.”
MOW is a consortium of online stakeholders affected by Google’s conduct, including leading publishers, marketers, and digital technology companies.
As reported in, inter alia, Bloomberg, Reuters, The Financial Times, The Register, The Telegraph, TechCrunch, and the Daily Mail, the CMA is now considering the complaint in order to decide whether to open an investigation or not.
