‘Over the Top’
Warren Munson – Journey of a lifetime
On the 9th September I and eight others will go ‘Over the Top’ and embark on the next cycling challenge (they seem to get madder each year!), starting in Bordeaux and cycling deep into the south of France to Perpignan, all to raise money for the Boo Charity.
In total assuming we do not get lost, which on past form cannot be guaranteed, we will be travelling 425 miles over four days. However as part of the journey we will be tackling the dreaded Col du Tourmalet, the highest road in the central Pyrenees at almost 7,000 feet. I have to say I fear coming down more than going up!
Consequently I have been training hard and don’t my legs know it! It has been a challenge fitting training in with family and work life. This has mainly been achieved by getting up at 5.30 in the morning and riding before the day gets underway.
So to the charity. The Boo Charity is a charity established in the memory of, one of the cyclists, Russell Hicks’ wife, Sarah, affectionately nicknamed ‘Boo’. Sarah sadly lost her battle to cancer at the age of 36. During her last years she sought alternative treatment in Kenya where she was touched by the compassion and love shown to her. Boo’s lasting wish was to help African children who are disadvantaged through economic poverty. The overriding principle and ethos of Boo is to provide children with care, whilst nurturing and developing opportunities to lift them from poverty so that they no longer need to rely on charity and hence their mantra is opportunity not charity.
Any money you are able, willing and kind enough to donate will go 100% towards building a new care facility for abandoned and orphaned babies in and around Nairobi. I am fully funding my flights, accommodation and any other expenses (Vaseline). The centre will fulfil their basic needs of care; food, warmth, medicine and most importantly love until they can be found adoption or foster homes. You can read more about the charity by following this link: http://www.boo-charity.org.uk/
If you would like to sponsor me in aid of this good cause please follow this link. I would appreciate any donations that you may be able to give and thank you in advance for your generosity.
If you want to follow our progress then there is a dedicated website www.overthetop.org.uk but I will be sure to provide you all with an update and some photos, for your amusement, on my safe return!
Thank you.
