NEW YORK and SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 18, 2013 /PRNewswire — Outten & Golden LLP, the largest firm in the nation that represents employees exclusively, announces the opening of its San Francisco office.
The partner in charge of the San Francisco office is Jahan C. Sagafi, whose practice is focused on wage-and-hour and employment discrimination class actions. Mr. Sagafi had been a partner with Lieff, Cabraser, Heimann & Bernstein, LLP in San Francisco.
O&G is renowned for its representation of employees, executives, and partners worldwide in transactional matters, such as employment, separation, and expatriate agreements, and for its representation of employees in class actions and individual litigations and arbitrations (in the areas of wage-and-hour claims, WARN violations, discrimination and retaliation claims, breaches of contract, restrictive covenants, and more). The new San Francisco office will represent employees in such transactional and litigation matters in all sectors, especially the financial services and technology sectors.
Outten & Golden managing partner Wayne N. Outten said, “While we already represent clients throughout the nation and abroad, we are excited about the opportunity to do more work in California and the Pacific Rim. Jahan is a great fit for our firm. He is an extraordinary lawyer and is very involved in the legal community in San Francisco and nationwide.”
Mr. Sagafi said, “I have long admired Outten & Golden as the premier employee-side employment firm in America, as I’ve worked with various O&G attorneys for many years on cases and in the community. On top of that, Wayne has cultivated a culture of integrity, excellence, camaraderie, and generosity. I look forward to managing our San Francisco office as we take on new challenges, including prosecuting class actions and representing executives, professionals, and other employees in San Francisco, Silicon Valley, and beyond.”
Mr. Sagafi has represented workers asserting overtime pay claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and state law, helping recover more than $100 million in various cases, and he has prosecuted nationwide race and gender discrimination cases against Abercrombie & Fitch, Goldman Sachs, and others. He also has represented consumers in cases challenging discrimination in automobile financing, bill cramming by telephone companies, and other deceptive and unfair business practices. In addition, he regularly handles civil appeals in the Ninth Circuit and other federal and state courts.
A governor of the nonprofit Public Advocates and a member of the Bar Association of San Francisco’s Judiciary Committee, Mr. Sagafi also has served on the boards of the ACLU of Northern California and the Bay Area American Constitution Society (ACS) chapter. He has received the Community Justice Award from Centro Legal De La Raza and has been recognized as a “Rising Star for Northern California” by Super Lawyers and a “Top 20 Under 40” lawyer by the Daily Journal in California.
Mr. Sagafi graduated from Harvard College and Harvard Law School and clerked for the Honorable William W Schwarzer of the Northern District of California.
