Newly Elected Civil Society Representatives on MEUSAC’s Core Group (2015-2017)

At a general meeting held on June 16, 2015 at Europe House in Valletta, civil society organisations that participate in the MEUSAC sectoral committees chose three representatives to represent the interest of civil society on the MEUSAC Core Group. The MEUSAC Core Group is made up of government officials, the three main political parties, the social partners and 3 civil society representatives. 

The three representatives that were elected are Ing. Saviour Baldacchino, Mr William Spiteri Bailey and Mr Joseph M. Azzopardi. They were selected according to the different sectors they represented:

  • Ing. Saviour Baldacchino will represent organisations in the Environment; Agriculture and Fisheries and Transport, Telecommunications and Energy sectors.
  • Mr William Spiteri Bailey was elected to represent the General Affairs, Competitiveness and Consumer Affairs, as well as the Economic and Financial Affairs sectors.
  • Mr Joseph M. Azzopardi was selected to represent the policy areas of Employment, Social Policy and Health; Education, Youth, Culture and Sports; as well as Justice and Home Affairs.

Saviour Baldacchino is a warranted professional engineer specialising in Electronics Technology, Computers and Communications. Saviour is currently President of the Malta Chamber of Engineers.

William Spiteri Bailey is the Senior Partner of Spiteri Bailey & Co., a multi-disciplinary Audit and Accounting Firm, and an independent member of PrimeGlobal, one of the largest association of independent accounting firms in the world.  William also represents the Malta Institute of Accountants on the Board of Directors of BPP Malta Limited and is also a member of the Kumitat Finanzi Djiocesan (KFD) of the Archdioceses of Malta, a committee presided by the Archbishop of Malta.

Joseph M. Azzopardi is a former Superintendent of Police. He is the Honorary Secretary to The Alliance of Pensioners’ Organisations which is formed of the eight major pensioners’ associations and also a Court Technical Expert.
