Jersey’s oldest law firm celebrates 150 year anniversary and commits to helping disadvantaged young islanders

Exclusive events with a local feel including a client party, a visit from a leading sports lawyer and a new charity of choice are just some of the big plans to celebrate Voisin Law’s milestone anniversary in 2019.

The Island’s oldest law firm was founded 150 years ago by Edward Voisin and has been at the heart of legal matters ever since.

The firm will be hosting a series of seminars, events and lunch and learn sessions along with sponsoring leading sports lawyer Daniel Geey’s visit to Jersey for the Jersey Festival of Words.

In addition, Voisin Law has committed to giving disadvantaged young islanders a helping hand, by choosing Brightly as its charity of choice for 2019.

The firm will be helping to raise money and awareness of the vital work the local charity does to support those children and young people from birth to 25 years of age. Brightly works with those who are being looked after in States care, leaving care, or foster care as well as others who are suffering adversity and are in need.

Voisin Law’s support will help fund  Brightly’s  ‘Moving On’ Grant Scheme which provides funding for those aged 18 to 25 to help them become more independent.

The funding from Voisin Law will help with financial or material support for care leavers, which could include such as medical, dental and optician appointments.  Education and training, such as courses, work clothing and equipment; and to help towards independence, helping with things such as driving lessons and household items; along with emergency funding for times of crisis.

Voisin Law’s Partner Jeffrey Giovannoni said, “This is a historic year for us and we’re delighted to be teaming up with this fantastic local charity which like us, has been at the heart of island life for decades.

“Brightly might be a very small charity but it does an amazing job, making a real and positive difference to the lives of vulnerable, local children and young adults by encouraging social inclusion, financial independence and less reliance on financial support from the state as they get older.”

Commenting on the support from Voisin Law, Brightly Fundraiser Wendy Nerac said, “We are delighted to have been nominated as Voisin Law’s chosen charity for 2019 and look forward to working in partnership with them to help raise awareness of our work, through volunteering and staff-led fundraising initiatives that they are planning to hold during the year.”

Last year Brightly helped 229 children and young people with 661 disbursements.
