Dr Jonathan De Giovanni admitted to Partnership at WDM International

WDM International is pleased to announce that with effect from 1st January 2015, Dr. Jonathan De Giovanni was admitted to partnership of the firm, taking up the role as Partner responsible for Legal and International Tax Services.

Dr. De Giovanni graduated as Doctor of Laws in 2009 defending a thesis entitled ‘Domestic and Treaty based Anti-Abuse Provisions to Combat Tax Treaty Abuse: An Analysis’, while contemporaneously reading for a Master of Arts in Financial Services at the University of Malta. He successfully completed his master’s degree in 2011, graduating with Merit after submitting a thesis regarding the international taxation of investment funds.

Jonathan started his career at WDM International in April 2013 taking on the role as Head of International Tax and Business Development. In 2014 he was appointed Director for Legal and International Tax Services and responsible for spearheading WDM Lex Advisory, the firm’s legal practice. In 2014, Jonathan was also appointed Director of WDM Trustees, which is licensed by the Malta Financial Services Authority to provide trustee and administrator services in terms of the Trusts and Trustees Act.

Jonathan’s duties include providing international corporate tax advice to a vast array of clients such as gaming and financial services operators, trading, financing and holding companies. His practice also includes providing tax advice to high net worth individuals in relation to immigration and tax issues, fiscal implications of aircraft and yacht registration and financing structures. He also provides legal advice to financial services operators, wishing to passport their rights, re-domicile or set up their operations in Malta, particularly focused on retail and professional investor funds and investment services.

Jonathan is also heavily involved in Aviation Law, having delivered various high calibre seminars in the field. He also delivers lectures at the University of Malta to law students in relation to the fiscal aspects of aircraft registration.

Jonathan is a Council member of the Malta Institute of Taxation, a member of the Tax and Unregulated Business Sub Committee of the Malta Institute of Financial Services Practitioners, a member of the International Fiscal Association and a member of the Malta Institute of Management. He also lectures the Advanced Taxation Module (P6) to students reading for the ACCA qualification and Principles of International Taxation to students pursuing their Advanced Diploma in International Taxation (ADIT) qualification. Jonathan also lectures at the University of Malta in the field of aviation law.
