‘Deal’ or ‘No Deal’? Brexit advice for businesses
Recently the HMRC published their latest letter to help VAT registered businesses that only trade with the EU, get ready to deal with customs in the unlikely event that the UK leaves the EU without a deal on 29th March 2019. The letter details the changes to customs, excise and VAT in case the UK leaves the EU without a deal.
The advice from the HMRC is to take the following three actions as soon as possible:
- Register for a UK Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number
- Decide whether they will use a customs agent to make import and/or export declarations or will make the declarations themselves using specialist software
- Contact the organisation that moves their goods (for example, a haulage firm) to find out if they will need to supply additional information to complete safety and security declarations, or whether they will need to submit these declarations themselves.

If the deal goes ahead, Her Majesty’s Government has launched the Brexit Deal Explained website to help the British public and businesses understand what the deal will deliver. The website outlines the UK’s plans for their future relationship with the EU, including the economy, free trade, businesses, jobs etc.
