Carey Veinotte and Chris Dafoe successfully enforce US $50 million dollar international arbitration award from India

On March 19, 2014, Mr. Justice Kent of the BC Supreme Court agreed than an arbitration award obtained in New Delhi, India by TVS’ client, Assam Company India, should be recognized as a BC judgement according to the International Commercial Arbitration Act (ICAA). The Award stemmed from a dispute between Assam and a Canadian firm, Canoro Resources, over the rights to exploit the Amguri oil field in India. After abandoning the arbitration in India and an arbitration panel in New Delhi made a number of findings against Canoro, the company argued to the BC Supreme Court that BC Courts should re-hear the dispute in its entirety. After two days of hearings, Mr. Justice Kent disagreed in his Judgement of March 10, 2014 and ordered that the Award be recognized as a BC Judgement, along with costs to Assam.
