Victor Jaramillo Serves Tax Controversy Needs of Global Community

Clients value and rely on Mr. Jaramillo’s in-depth knowledge of U.S. tax law and his innovative approach to solving complex tax issues. His areas of focus for corporate clients include all forms of outbound and inbound investment, foreign tax credits, tax treaty issues and competent authority proceedings, and withholding issues. Mr. Jaramillo also advises clients and foreign governments on international taxation and tax treaty issues in court proceedings around the world and in matters before the Permanent Court of Arbitration.Caplin & Drysdale welcomes Victor A. Jaramillo as a new Member of the firm effective October 1, 2018. As part of Caplin & Drysdale’s International Tax, Private Client, and Tax Controversy practice groups, Mr. Jaramillo counsels multinational corporations and high-net-worth clients on a broad spectrum of tax matters, including cross-border transactions, IRS and DOJ examinations and investigations, and tax treaty issues. He is also a frequent panelist and lecturer to English- and Spanish-speaking audiences across the globe on U.S. tax reform, the U.S. taxation of virtual currencies, and international tax policy.

Mr. Jaramillo advises global high-net-worth clients with respect to pre-immigration planning, expatriation, tax-efficient structuring of cross-border investments, and succession planning where U.S. persons are involved. He also represents clients in criminal tax matters arising from IRS and DOJ investigations involving foreign assets and trusts. Additionally, clients with undisclosed foreign assets, businesses, and trust interests turn to Mr. Jaramillo to return to compliance with U.S. tax laws.

Mr. Jaramillo earned his law degree, with honors, from Emory University School of Law, and is an active member of the American Bar Association’s Section of Taxation.
