Chris DowningDirector, Inspire Professional Services Ltd

“Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organisational objectives; It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.” – Andrew Carnegie.

1.You cannot do it all yourself

Whatever your service or product it is imperative that others can deliver it.

There is a finite limit on the time and ability of one person.  For a team the potential is enormous. Read more from New Entrepreneurs Foundation on how building a complimentary team around you is important when building a successful business.

2.Perpetuity

The business needs to be able to function as a separate entity.

Then key leaders are free to:

  • Create
  • Innovate
  • Strategise
  • Grow the businessteam work 1 blog

Entrepreneurs want to move forward and make changes.  They see opportunities and potential where others see risk and challenge.  To make the most of these skills there needs to be a strong, engaged and highly competent team to follow through.

The work and effort of creating business can continue without the entrepreneur if the team have the strength, depth and passion to continue the business.

3.Empower employees’ ideas & creativity

Different people have different ideas and strengths.  Some of them will be enhancing to the business.

  • The designer needs the creativity of the engineer to make the product functional.
  • The engineer needs the accountant to make the product economically viable.
  • The product needs the communication team to make it marketable.

How many people can create all of these ideas alone? Inspire has a great team made up of individuals who have different qualities and attributes to contribute.

4.Make work fun

Productivity, efficiency and a willingness to go the extra mile are all a result of making work fun and satisfying.

Good teams allow all individuals to work to their strengths will support each other in the hard times and enhance the good times.

  • How much easier is to go to the gym iteam work 3 blogf you have agreed to meet your training partner?
  • How many times would you have stayed at home were it not for the promise you had made to someone else?
  • How good does it feel to have got someone through a difficult time?  That high five moment.

5.Human nature

For the vast majority being part of a team is rewarding.  Supporting and being supported provide a sense of self worth.

Inclusion in a team with meaningful and respected outcomes drives engagement in the organisation.

From greater engagement follows motivation, enthusiasm, and strong leadership.  The ultimate outcome is increased productivity and ultimately profit and growth. Here is a great article from The Happy Manager to read on why teamwork is important.
