Jean-Marc Clément is an international trade lawyer with over 20 years of experience serving large multinational corporations, SMEs, as well as business start-ups located in Canada and abroad. Businesses seek Jean-Marc’s advice and good judgment to improve their competitiveness worldwide through better planning of their international trade operations while ensuring compliance with cross-border requirements.

His area of expertise covers a broad range of international trade subjects and services including: customs procedures, import tariffs, duty recovery, import/export controls, customs seizures, unfair trade remedies (dumping/countervail), trade sanctions, international trade agreements, corporate governance, foreign anti-corruption, due diligence reviews, audit assistance, voluntary disclosures, government relations, dispute settlement and court representation.

Before joining Woods, LaFortune LLP as legal counsel, Jean-Marc practiced law at BCF Business Law, a dynamic Montreal-based law firm, member of the MERITAS global alliance. Prior to that, Jean-Marc spent over a decade heading the international trade consulting practice of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) in Montreal. Jean-Marc began his career as in-house legal counsel for a North American customs broker and freight forwarder. He is currently a member of the Canadian International Trade Tribunal Advisory Committee.
