As 2020 draws to a close and we reflect back on the year that’s been, it’s safe to say that whilst the business world has been hit by a series of extraordinary challenges, deals in the mergers and acquisitions (M&A) market have indeed continued to take place. There has been plenty of acquisitive opportunities; utilised either via offensive or defensive strategies which have led to the enhancement or protection of company positioning.
As we turn our attention to 2021 what might we expect the year to look like from an M&A deals perspective?
Join us on Friday 4 December for the third webinar in our new programme ‘Building financial fortitude’, where James Ashton, a financial journalist, will chair a lively discussion between Ian Barton, a managing director in our Corporate Finance team and two guest speakers, Amy Crofton, a director at Foresight Group, and Rachel Turner, head of the Thames Valley Corporate team at Harrison Clark Rickerbys.
The panellists will cover:
• A brief review of the 2020 deals market, looking at key sectors and the winners and losers;
• Offensive vs defensive M&A strategies;
• The role of private equity and the types of businesses and/or transactions suitable;
• Predictions for the year ahead; and
• A legal perspective on deal-doing in a post-Brexit world.
Our chair, James Ashton, is a financial journalist, writer, speaker and thought leader. He was City Editor at The Sunday Times and Executive Editor at the Evening Standard and a series of independent titles before that. He has been on the front-row seat for many of the biggest economic and corporate stories of recent times and today writes regularly for several national newspapers including the Sunday Telegraph and The Times.
Promising to be a very engaging session with plenty of insight to be gleaned from an array of trusted experts, we look forward to welcoming you.
