As we start returning back to normal life on the Isle of Man, we have a chat with some of our staff to see how they’ve been getting on. Find out a little bit more about one of our directors, Martin Hall.
Introduction
I’m Martin Hall and I’m one of the four directors at Peregrine. I’m responsible for the day to day operations of the firm, managing client relationships and seeking opportunities to develop new business. Outside of work, I co-host of The M Word podcast where I chat to those involved in all levels of sport to understand the mind-set, motivation and inspiration. I also spend a lot of my time road cycling.
How long have you worked at Peregrine?
I joined in August 2019 so it’s not far shy of a year.
Why did you choose your career path?
When I first I started working, my first role was working for the Government and then I moved into the private sector in the early 2000’s. I enjoyed working in a client services role and that’s where I seem to have stayed ever since – I like providing a service to the client and ensure their needs are met.
If you weren’t doing your current job, what would be your dream job?
I think this changes depending on my mood. One day I would have liked to have been a pro cyclist, the next a physiotherapist. I would quite like to have been an author too!
What do you love most about your job?
I love providing a service to the client and meeting their expectations (hopefully!) – it gives me a sense of satisfaction.
How are you finding working from home?
I’ve enjoyed it although it will be good to get back in the office and start having more of a structured routine! Although, I do hope there will be more working from home with the new ‘normal’.
What do you love most about working at Peregrine?
Being independent and privately owned – it gives great freedom to explore new ideas, allows us to be flexible with our clients and we can [within reason!] accommodate our clients wishes.
How are you working differently due to Covid-19?
It hasn’t really changed. We’re working from home (with a view to go back into the office next week) but primarily everything remains the same. My team has regular calls to keep in touch and we message and email too – it hasn’t been much different apart from not seeing each other face-to-face.
How are you supporting your clients through Covid-19? How are they finding it?
Thankfully business at the moment remains fairly normal but we’ve been in regular contact with all our clients. For the time being, most of our clients are dealing with personal circumstances of lockdown or are delaying transactions for a short period of time, but hopefully things will start to pick up as the worldwide lockdown eases.
What do you think your biggest opportunities are right now?
Our marketing department has pushed ahead with our rebrand and we have recently launched an exciting business podcast. We’ve remained positive during the Covid-19 period and believe the existing opportunities to enhance and preserve wealth remain in place and look forward to the expansion of Peregrine in the coming years.
What has been your proudest career moment?
I don’t really have one. I tend to look forward at the next opportunity.
