Our Chairman, Dr. Adebola Olubanjo was a special guest in the month of August at a faith-based organisation and addressed about 700 Men, Women and Youths on the Fundamentals of Value Creation.
WHAT IS VALUE?
Value can be described as the amount of money that something is worth. It could also be said to be the importance or usefulness of something. If you are creating value, it means you are creating something of importance or something that is useful or something of a certain worth in monetary terms. Broadly speaking, value is created through work, which could be mechanical or creative. If you cut down a palm tree and turn the trunk into planks for building a bridge, you have created value through work. If you design a logo for a company or write a book, you have created value. If you enrol in a University to obtain a university degree, you have created value for yourself.
To be able to create these values, you need to ask yourself the following vital questions: Where are you now? What value have you created? What value are you creating? What is your purpose in life? These questions can serve as a guide to value-creating in an individual’s life. You will know where you have been and where you need to improve on and also know the right steps to take in order to achieve them.
There are several importance of value creation in the life of an individual. These include financial freedom, elimination of suffering, reduced crime rate, peace of mind at old age. It also encourages investments, economic growth and national development and most especially, it enables you to leave a legacy for your family and loved ones.
To be able to create value, you need to consider these three things:
1.Your skill
2.Your Natural gift
3.Your Talents.
These will be a guide as to the areas of which your value creation will be focused. These skills, gifts and talents will enable you to know where to go to find ideas for value creation and business. For example Trade Journals, Internet, Laws and Regulations, Training programmes and workshops, “opportunity” Magazines, Government Publications, Local Government and State Fairs, trade fairs, trends, etc.
You also need to consider when there are available opportunities in the financial sectors like micro-finance banks, Bank of Industry, Lagos State Employment Trust Funds, etc. These are government agencies that assist in giving loans to the masses through Business Development Service Providers.
Finally, you need God, Yourself and Others to be able to create value.
