The legislature did it to us again!

Aviva Y. GordonPartner, Gordon Law

OPENING STATEMENT

All year you have heard me talk about the 2019 Legislative Session. Earlier this month, it finally came to a close. Unfortunately, it proved to be a very difficult session for business. Our representatives passed a number of new laws that will surely make operating your business more challenging (and more expensive). As you review the new laws and the impacts on your business, you may have questions and concerns. I am always available to discuss new challenges and opportunities for you.

DISCOVERY

As you likely know, I have had the great privilege of serving as the Chairperson of the Henderson Chamber of Commerce’s Legislative Committee. In that role, I was able to review the bills as they were presented. Furthermore, I had the ability to comment and testify on the effects of those bills, and play a role in trying to mitigate the harm of some of them.

Please read HERE to learn about the new laws that will have the broadest effect on those businesses with employees within the state of Nevada.

IN SUMMATION

As you can tell from this month’s article, if your business has employees, you will need to comply with new laws and regulations. I have previously written about employee handbooks; please see HERE. If your business does not have an employee handbook, now is a good time to consider creating one.

If your business does have one, I strongly encourage you to review it to ensure it follows the new laws regulating your business. Please keep in mind that Gordon Law is always here to help you with your employment questions.
