The International Trade Commission is seeking input for a newly instituted investigation of the effects on the U.S. economy of the duty suspensions and reductions in the miscellaneous trade bill enacted into law Sept. 13.
The ITC states that it will provide a broad assessment of the effects on U.S. producers, purchasers, and consumers as well as case studies looking at the effects on individual sectors. The report will also include recommendations solicited from the public with respect to those domestic industry sectors that might benefit from permanent duty suspensions or reductions, with a particular focus on inequities created by tariff inversions.
The ITC will hold a public hearing in connection with this investigation March 5 in Washington, D.C. Requests to appear at this hearing are due by Feb. 19 and pre-hearing briefs and statements are due by Feb. 22. Post-hearing briefs and statements are due by March 12 and all other written submissions are due by March 22. The ITC’s final report will be delivered to the House Ways and Means and Senate Finance committees by Sept. 13, 2019.
