May/22/2017
Human rights defenders have always seen Afghanistan as a State where torture is prevalent. In a recent stride by the Afghan legislators, the Law on Prohibition of Torture has been enacted that criminalizes any torturous act in order to protect legal rights of the suspect, accused and convict while they are under legal prosecution. The Law on Prohibition of Torture is enacted pursuant to Articles 64 and 79 of the Afghanistan’s Constitution and is published in the Official Gazette No.1256 on 2/2/1396 (22/4/2017).
