On 10 February 2016 the government approved what is probably the most controversial law in recent years: Electronic records of sales. Out of a total of 145 MPs present 105 voted in favour of the new law.

The introduction of compulsory records will be gradual. Firstly it will apply to restaurant and hotels, then also retail stores and wholesale trade. Within two years sales records should be compulsory for all businesses that receive payment in cash.

In addition to being an effective way of combatting the grey economy, the Ministry of Finance also expects the project to boost the Treasury’s revenues by 18 billion Czech crowns.
