Merchant & Gould ranked in top 5% of IP litigation law firms in BTI report

In the BTI Litigation Outlook 2016: Changes, Trends and Opportunities for Law Firms report, corporate counsel from Fortune 1000 companies ranked Merchant & Gould in the top 5% of all law firms for intellectual property (“IP”) litigation.

The BTI Litigation Outlook 2016 report, an annual study produced by BTI Consulting Group, is an in-depth analysis of the litigation market based on 322 individual telephone interviews with corporate legal counsel in over 15 industry segments. These interviews were conducted between March 9 and Sept. 10, 2015. BTI combines a comprehensive analysis of client spending, goals, priorities, and needs with unbiased, direct feedback from leading legal decision makers on more than 160 individual law firms to compile this report. These annual reports track and trend data extracted from more than 4,000 corporate counsel client interviews conducted during the past 15 years. This research is independent and unbiased—no law firm or organization other than BTI sponsors this study.

Last year, BTI also listed Merchant & Gould in its IP VIPs: Outstanding in All Aspects of IP 2015 list. This select group of only 12 firms stands out with IP decision makers in virtually all areas of IP: complex IP litigation, complex patent work, routine IP litigation, and routine patent work.

Merchant & Gould has over 60 dedicated IP litigators and litigation support team members, 104 total lawyers focused on all aspects of IP, and 115 years of experience solely in intellectual property. This focus on IP means everyone on trial teams, from paralegals and support staff to senior trial counsel, has extensive IP trial and litigation experience.

“This recognition confirms that our unusual depth in both IP litigation and IP prosecution allows us to best serve our clients, especially as PTO proceedings such as inter partes review have become critical components of IP litigation strategy,” says Daniel McDonald, chair of Merchant & Gould’s litigation practice group. “While the ranking is much appreciated, we understand that our clients will want us to continue to focus on delivering outstanding results cost-effectively.”
