Mishcon de Reya has announced the appointment of former King & Wood Mallesons Partner, Ray Black, as a Partner in the Firm’s Intellectual Property department. Ray starts today, 6 July.
Ray specialises in the protection, exploitation and enforcement of IP, including: copyright and database rights; designs; trademarks and passing off; patents; confidential information; and trade secrets. He spent 24 years at King & Wood Mallesons representing many high profile rights owners across a range of sectors, including: Nintendo; Ralph Lauren; E! Entertainment; QVC; Marc Jacobs; DKNY; MGA Entertainment Inc; Sanofi; SSP International; Apax Partners; Bet365; and Ranbaxy Laboratories.
Ray trained and qualified at Slaughter and May, then moved to Baker & McKenzie Hong Kong in 1977 before becoming a Partner there in 1982 and establishing that Firm’s IP practice in South East Asia. He returned to London in 1991 to set up the IP practice for SJ Berwin (as it then was).
Jeremy Hertzog, Head of Mishcon de Reya’s Intellectual Property department, commented: “Ray’s extensive and varied background in IP law complements our existing practice, where our specialist lawyers continue to deliver a complete range of services across all aspects of IP. Ray has worked across a broad range of sectors on significant cases for high profile clients and is consequently incredibly well connected both here and internationally. He will be an asset to the team and we very much look forward to working with him.”
Ray added: “It’s an honour to be joining such a respected team at Mishcon de Reya – I’m excited to help the Firm further develop its IP practice.”
