Fieldfisher has strengthened its oil & gas practice with the appointment of Stuart Carter who previously had jointly led the oil & gas team at Bond Dickinson. Stuart comes with over 23 years’ oil and gas experience, of which over 15 was gained in-house working for super majors and medium-sized independents. Stuart is primarily an upstream specialist but also has significant midstream pipeline transportation and sales experience. The majority of Stuart’s work has concentrated on Africa and the UKCS, but he also has a wide range of experience throughout Europe, the Far East and the Caribbean where he has direct experience of working on all the major joint venture, development and production contracts that are industry specific to this sector. He has also handled a number of licence round bids and worked on production sharing contracts in Africa and in the Far East. Further, Stuart also comes with a wealth of oil and gas sector M&A experience, including asset re-organisation as well as managing large scale due diligence.
On the UKCS, Stuart advised the Sumitomo Corporation on their corporate holdings in various UKCS producing fields and on their sale to Ithaca Energy (UK) Limited. He also advised Serica Energy (UK) Limited on its recent acquisition from BP of its entire interest in the Erskine Field, and earlier in their negotiations for the unitisation of the Columbus Field. In Africa, Stuart has acted for various E&P companies including BG Group during their participation in OKLNG, Nigeria and for TOTAL on various development projects in the Mabruk basin, Libya. He also has broad experience in negotiating various PSCs and EPSAs across the Maghreb and advised Burlington Resources in their development and on-going joint venture activities on the Ourhoud Field, Algeria, together with a number of farm out / in projects for small and mid-cap companies across the continent. In Europe, Stuart advised on BG Group’s sale of their Po Valley, Italy exploration and production assets and has acted for other companies on various M&A and field development work in the Netherlands, Germany and the UK.
