Jim McDonald is a member of both SGM’s labour law and civil litigation groups. His labour law practice focuses on grievance arbitration and proceedings before the Ontario Labour Relations Board and other administrative tribunals on behalf of trade unions in both the private and broader public sectors. Jim also frequently represents trade unions in judical review applications before the Divisional Court and in appeals before the Ontario Court of Appeal.
In his civil litigation practice, Jim represents employees who are not members of trade unions in wrongful dismissal claims, litigates disability claims made by employees against insurance companies and is part of SGM’s class action team.
Jim received his law degree from the University of Toronto Law School and was called to the Bar in 1978. He also holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Toronto and a master of arts degree from the University of Minnesota.
Jim is a member of the Canadian Association of Labour Lawyers, the Ontario Bar Association and the Advocates’ Society.
