Glenna Thompson was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1993 by the Honorable Society of Inner Temple and she holds a Master of Laws Degree (LL.M) from the London School of Economics in Public International Law. She enrolled as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of Sierra Leone in 1995. She practiced in the UK until 2002 when she returned to Sierra Leone where she has continued as a practicing lawyer. She has worked extensively within Justice Sector Development in Sierra Leone as a consultant, trainer and as Component Manager, Administration of Justice, Justice Sector Development Programme (JSDP). In 2007 she was appointed as a consultant and one of three Special Prosecutors for the Anti Corruption Commission and in 2008 with the advent of the new Anti Corruption Act and the reorganization of the Commission, she was appointed Director of Intelligence, Investigations and Prosecution of the Commission, a position she held till May 2010 when she returned to full time private practice. In practice she undertakes commercial and corporate law, admiralty and environmental law, family and property law. She has acted for major companies like Hilton Hotels Worldwide, BMI and Eco Petrol. She has also advised clients in respect of investments, mergers and acquisitions in Sierra Leone, project financing and re-financing, share issue and has represented international mining companies operating within Sierra Leone. She lectures part-time at the Sierra Leone Law School. She also continues to undertake work within criminal law and justice sector development.
The firm was founded in 1997 by Nicholas Browne-Marke, a former Senior State Counsel who became one of the leading Commercial and Criminal practitioners in Sierra Leone and is now a Justice of the Court of Appeal. In 2007 the firm changed its name to BMT LAW CHAMBERS. The firm now has 3 partners and 2 associates with a combined experience of over 35 years. The firm has established a reputation for its knowledge of the local investment environment and public regulation and its commitment to its clients based on their needs.
