Formerly an MTV darling and more recently a troubled artist fighting addiction, singer Courtney Love is once again in the spotlight — this time for a business dispute. Florida fans of Love and her band “Hole” are well aware of the singer’s dramatic public life, which is often rife with legal controversy. This time, Love is facing a breach of contract suit from a psychiatrist who says he is owed back payment.

The psychiatrist, who is also a self-identified addiction specialist, has claimed Love owes him to the tune of $50,000 in back payments for services rendered since 2010. The psychiatrist and his team are said to specialize in the treatment of mental health and substance abuse disorders and claim to have serviced Love as a patient. Very little other information about the suit is currently available.

Love is something of a magnet for this sort of controversy, as she regularly appears in news feeds for legal action being taken against her. However, a breach of contract suit is new for the troubled singer. It has not been confirmed when the suit will be overseen in court, but Love maintains regular legal representation.

No matter how famous an individual might become in American culture, the laws of Florida and every other state still make them beholden to signed contracts. If Love is found to be in breach of contract, as the psychiatrist’s team claims her to be, she will likely be mandated to pay back the outstanding amount owed. It will be up to the court presiding over the matter to determine if liability exists and, if so, what financial damages will be assessed.
