Cyprus Parliament Pass Privatization Bill – Investigative Due Diligence

Cyprus Parliament yesterday, passed the privatisation bill in time for the 5th march deadline.

The House of Representatives adopted, by majority vote, an amended version of the privatisation bill, which sets out the framework for semi-government organisations (SGOs) to be privatised.

The decision comes after the first draft was rejected last Thursday, with 25 votes against, 25 in favour and 5 abstentions. This time round, the bill was passed with 30 in favour, 26 against, and no abstentions.

The ruling Democratic Rally (DISY), the Democratic Party (DIKO), the European Party (EVROKO) and independent Famagusta MP Zacharias Koulias voted for the adoption of the bill into law.

The Communist Party (AKEL), the Socialist Party (EDEK), the Greens and the representative of the recently-formed Citizens’ Alliance voted against the bill.
