- Patent backlog in Brazil causes delay in examination
- BPO reports average delays of 10 years for applications filed in the early 2000s
- Extreme cases have been reported to have taken up to 12 years
- Delays apply to both patent and utility model applications
- Slightly less for utility models (about 8 years)
